Overview
Project Solutions (a division of TPS360) was appointed as the Principal Contractor for the University of Bath’s Norwood & Wessex House project. The goal was to apply an anti-carbonation and corrosion inhibitor protection system to the buildings’ façades, enhancing the concrete’s durability and structural integrity to prevent carbonation degradation and ensure the buildings’ long-term reliability.
Challenges
The project faced several challenges, including access constraints, adverse weather conditions, and the need for additional concrete repairs.
Extensive scaffolding and access cradles were required due to the building’s height and the span of the façades. Weather conditions, including high winds, rain, and temperatures below 5°C, posed potential delays, but these were effectively managed to keep the project on track.
During detailed inspections, it was found that approximately 10% of the panels required additional repairs. These repairs were carefully coordinated to minimise disruption to the overall schedule. Throughout the project, rigorous adherence to CDM regulations ensured safety, with regular audits and certified operatives on-site.
Outcome
The project was completed ahead of schedule, delivering enhanced structural integrity, and extending the lifespan of the façades.
